Career Issues

Some bloggers maintain sites based on their areas of expertise. Essentially, they use their blogs as a tool to market themselves.  This goes for self-employed people who use blogs to generate business… but it also goes for potential employees who use the format to demonstrate their abilities and expertise to potential employers.

Of course, blogging can be community-oriented – both within blog comment sections and between like-minded blogs. This can make blogging an attractive networking strategy.

To be fair, there are some who don’t see blogging as a way to make money.  Rather, since they write frankly on controversial topics, they see it also a potential detriment to their careers, choosing to write pseudonymously.  In an age of Google-based background checks on potential employees, this makes sense.
